Connecting an AI Assistant
Experimental: connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another assistant so it can search and edit your Cook:RE recipes.
Connecting an AI Assistant
Experimental. Cook:RE can connect to one AI assistant at a time, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. A connected assistant can search your recipes, answer questions about them, and edit them as you talk. Connecting an assistant needs Cook:RE Unlimited. Setup is done on a computer, and whether your assistant lets you add a custom connection depends on its plan and settings.
What a connected assistant can do
Once connected, an assistant can use Cook:RE’s tools to:
- Search your library: Find recipes by title, ingredient or tag.
- Read a recipe: See its ingredients, steps and servings as Cook:RE shows them.
- Edit a recipe: Add, change or remove ingredients and steps. Every edit is a revision in the recipe’s History, named for the assistant that made it, and you can undo it.
- Look up ingredients: Match an ingredient to Cook:RE’s ingredient catalog.
- Organize collections: See your collections, find recipes in one or in none, and create collections, add or remove recipes, rename them and delete them. Deleting a collection never deletes its recipes.
Collection changes need your yes
An assistant shows you what it plans to do with your collections, such as “Create Pasta with 7 recipes”, and applies it only after you agree in the conversation. If your collections change in Cook:RE before it applies the plan, it starts over with a new preview. Applied changes appear in your Collections and sync to your other devices like any other edit.
Collection changes are not part of a recipe’s History, so there is nothing to undo there. Ask the assistant to put things back and it will show you that plan the same way.
How to connect
- In Cook:RE, open Preferences, then Assistant.
- On a computer, open www.cookre.app/connect. Tap Send Link to Your Computer or Copy to get the address there.
- Follow the steps for your assistant on that page. At the end, a Cook:RE page shows a code and a QR code.
- Scan the QR code with your iPhone’s camera, or tap Enter a Code in Cook:RE and type the code, then tap Continue.
- Check that the name shown is your assistant, then tap Link followed by its name.
One assistant at a time
To switch assistants, open Preferences → Assistant and tap Disconnect. Then connect the new one. Disconnecting your only assistant deletes the copy of your recipes that Cook:RE keeps for it, and connecting again uploads them afresh.
What is stored
A connection makes Cook:RE keep a copy of your recipes on its server, hosted by Cloudflare, so the assistant can read and edit them. Only the connected assistant can read that copy, and only when you ask it something. What the assistant does with the recipe text it reads is governed by its provider. See the privacy policy.
